UK plan would allow bank cards as voter ID despite verification warning
Britain’s proposed Representation of the People Bill would allow non-photographic bank cards as polling-station ID, after compulsory photo ID was introduced in 2022. The Electoral Commission has warned it would be harder for staff to verify identities, and estimated about 16,000 in-person voters did not return after lacking ID. The question is whether wider access justifies weaker checks.
