DeSantis Cancels Execution of 74-Year-Old in First Warrant Withdrawal as Governor

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis withdrew the death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, canceling his lethal injection scheduled for Tuesday. The letter, signed Thursday, gave no reason and was DeSantis's first warrant withdrawal in nearly eight years as governor. Thompson, convicted in the 1976 murder and kidnapping of Sally Ivester, remains on death row.
