Tidal Blocks AI-Generated Music from Royalty Pools
Tidal will automatically tag wholly AI-generated music and exclude it from earning royalties, striking at the economic incentive to upload synthetic filler at scale. The policy directly addresses a documented source of friction: AI-generated loops and ambient tracks dilute per-stream rates for human artists. Tagging also enables downstream filtering by distributors and rights bodies. Enforcement remains an open question—detection of fully AI-generated audio is technically non-trivial, and Tidal has not disclosed its methodology.
