IPCA investigates Police Commissioner in unprecedented case

The Independent Police Conduct Authority announced on 25 June that it is investigating complaints against Police Commissioner Richard Chambers. The IPCA and Police are conducting parallel inquiries. No details of the complaints have been publicly disclosed. This marks the first time the oversight body has scrutinized the Commissioner himself rather than officers below him. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said on 29 June he retains confidence in Chambers.
