Former Florida deputy acquitted in shooting death of Airman Roger Fortson

An Okaloosa County jury acquitted former deputy Eddie Duran of manslaughter with a firearm after about two hours of deliberation ending a four-day trial. Duran, who faced up to 30 years, shot Black Air Force airman Roger Fortson, 23, inside his Fort Walton Beach apartment in May 2024 during a false disturbance call. The encounter was captured on body camera.
