Pope Leo XIV told artists Oct. 2 that "it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce." He cited "an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one," describing machine output as "statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others," adding "Algorithms lack the spark of humanity."
