Algeria's Lower House Votes Death Penalty for Forest Arson

Algeria's National Assembly voted to make deliberate burning of forests, woods or fields punishable by execution, after more than 100 fires in the northeast killed 12 officially. The bill still requires Council of the Nation review and presidential ratification. Justice Minister Lotfi Boudjemaa called the death penalty "the appropriate legal response to curb these crimes."
