MPs say TV licence fee is outdated and risks managed decline

The Commons culture and media committee said the TV licence fee is outdated and no longer fit for purpose. It said reform is needed to avoid “managed decline”. MPs noted 94% use the BBC monthly but only 80% of households pay. The report was published as the Government considers options for the next Royal Charter, covering funding from 2028 onwards.
