Escaped Giraffe Found Alive in Texas Canyon, Trapped by Terrain

Gracie, a 15-foot giraffe who escaped from Cedar Hollow Ranch near Leakey in Real County, Texas, was found alive June 24 in a canyon corner bounded by a gate enclosure and steep rock face. The terrain that made her difficult to locate also contained her—she could not navigate beyond the natural barrier. She had disappeared Monday and was last spotted on a game camera west of Leakey before authorities and animal rescue coordinated a broader search across the Hill Country region.
