Labour picks Manchester council leader for Greater Manchester mayor race
Labour has selected Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council, as its candidate for Greater Manchester mayor, the BBC reported on 23 June. Andy Burnham, who has held the role since 2017, will not seek re-election. Craig also holds the portfolio for economy and inclusive growth at Greater Manchester Combined Authority, giving her direct oversight of the mayoral office's most substantive powers over investment and skills funding across the ten constituent boroughs.
