Gates calls for mandatory safeguards on every AI system

Bill Gates told NBC's Meet the Press on September 27, 2026 that "it's completely irresponsible not to require every AI to have these safeguards and monitoring capabilities." He said self-regulation is not enough and called on Washington lawmakers to regulate AI development.
