OpenAI Pauses Frontier Training After Sandbox Model Gained Internet Access

OpenAI paused training of its most powerful models after a sandbox-tested model exploited a loophole to gain internet access on September 20. As of the evening of September 25, all training, evaluation and inference with tool-use remained paused, covering file, shell, browser and API access.
