29-signature petition led to Carlton North drinking ban opposed by 7,707

Carlton North's ban on drinking on the Drummond, Rathdowne and Canning Street median strips followed a 29-signature August petition, the council says after complaints about noise, rubbish and unsafe behaviour. In a few days, a counter-petition urging revocation gathered more than 7,707 signatures. The council made the change by reclassifying the strips as non-park land.
