Canada's regulator approves first construction of GE's BWRX-300 small modular reactor

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission issued a construction licence to Ontario Power Generation on April 4, 2025, for the Darlington New Nuclear Project—moving it from the site-preparation phase into full build authority. The facility will house one BWRX-300, GE-Vernova's 300 MWe design, making Darlington the world's first grid-scale deployment of the technology.
