Kingston to Get High-Speed Rail Stop, Cutting Toronto Travel to 90 Minutes

The federal government confirmed Kingston as a station on the planned Quebec City–Windsor high-speed rail corridor on June 22, 2026. The city, home to Queen's University and Corrections Canada headquarters, sits midway between Toronto and Ottawa. Projected service would compress Kingston–Toronto travel time to 90 minutes, compared to current Via Rail's two hours forty minutes. The announcement accompanied release of the ALTOS public consultation report, which fed into station planning.
