Fed Raises Rate Target to 3.75% to 4%

The Federal Reserve raised its federal funds rate target to 3-3/4 to 4% on Sept. 16, up a quarter point, according to the Fed. That benchmark shapes borrowing and savings rates. The Board also raised the rate on reserve balances to 3.90%. Tighter credit should follow; how long it lasts depends on inflation.
