OpenAI CEO tells UN Security Council AI must remain under human control

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told the UN Security Council on 23 September 2026 that AI systems must remain under human control. Calling for a "middle path", he said "people must remain at the center of AI decision making" during a briefing on artificial intelligence and international security.
