Divorces in England and Wales lasted median 13 years in 2025, longest since 1963

Marriages ending in divorce in England and Wales in 2025 lasted a median of 13 years, ONS data published 23 September 2026 shows. It is the longest duration since records began in 1963, up from a low of 8.9 years in 1985. The ONS recorded 105,002 divorces in 2025.
