Strong El Niño projected to cause 450,000 extra heat deaths through February 2027

University of Chicago's Climate Impact Lab projects more than 450,000 additional heat deaths from an unusually strong El Niño through February 2027, compared with a typical year. Researchers estimate land temperatures up 1.2C and 44% more extremely hot days, with the heaviest toll in poorer, food-insecure countries.
