Meta appeals Ofcom's added Online Safety duties for WhatsApp and Instagram

Meta served notice of appeal against Britain's Ofcom over placing WhatsApp and Instagram in a category with additional Online Safety Act duties. Lawyers served notice in the week before 20 September 2026. The duties include greater transparency, more user controls, fraud-advertising protections and recording of illegal content. Meta says it disputes Ofcom's interpretation, not the law itself.
