Yemen, Afghanistan face steep UK aid cuts as Ukraine aid protected

Yemen is set to receive 28% less UK aid and Afghanistan 39% less by 2028/29 under planned cuts, while aid to Ukraine is ringfenced. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said savings from overseas aid cuts would be redirected to defence spending. Yemen, Afghanistan and Ukraine were the top three recipients in 2025.
