NASA Orbiter Finds Largest Modern-Day Solar System Crater on Moon

NASA said its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter located the 728-foot-wide, 141-foot-deep McGetchin crater on the Moon, described as the largest modern-day crater in the solar system. The agency reported the discovery on Sept. 15, 2026. The steep-sided feature spans roughly two football fields.
