Firefighters find African serval in Marrero backyard during house fire

Louisiana firefighters answering a small house fire in Marrero, a suburban New Orleans community, found an African serval behind the residence in a 9-by-9-foot chain-linked enclosure. Servals are wild cats native to Sub-Saharan Africa. Such chance encounters often determine where exotic animals are found, not inspections.
