Police can move on beggars and rough sleepers under new law

Parliament has passed the Summary Offences (Move-on Orders) Amendment Bill. It lets police order people who are disorderly, begging or sleeping rough to move elsewhere. According to the Government, disobeying an order can result in a fine or jail sentence. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said it does not criminalise homelessness.
