At Least 26 Killed in Abyei Clashes on Sudan-South Sudan Border

At least 26 people were killed and 82 injured in days of fighting at Amiet Common Market in Abyei, the UN said September 17, 2026. The clashes followed separate killings of a Ngok Dinka man and a Misseriya man. Abyei is claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan, unresolved since 2011. UN peacekeepers reinforced positions and evacuated casualties.
