Trump calls Canada-EU associate membership idea 'laughable'

Donald Trump dismissed as "laughable" the proposal for Canada to become the European Union's first associate member. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen floated the idea Sept. 16. Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the ambition in an address to the European Parliament Sept. 17, saying details remain to be defined.
