Roy Burnham died without knowing his son had become prime minister

Prime Minister Andy Burnham's father, Roy Burnham, died on Monday, 14 September. The BBC said he had advanced Alzheimer's and did not know his son had become prime minister. Mr Burnham cancelled engagements following the death and thanked opposition leaders and well-wishers for messages.
