National to seek mandate to separate Pak'nSave from New World
National will seek an electoral mandate to split Pak'nSave from New World and Four Square to drive down grocery prices, the party says. Foodstuffs currently manages all three brands through two co-operatives. Under the plan, New Zealand would have three nationwide chains: Pak'nSave, New World/Four Square, and Woolworths. National says it will not take a proposal to Cabinet this term.
