Catania Airport Halts All Flights Until Tuesday Night Over Etna Ash

All arrivals and departures at Catania International Airport in Sicily were suspended until 22:00 local time Tuesday after ash from Mount Etna drifted over eastern Sicily. The halt began Monday. Etna, Europe's tallest active volcano at 3,324 metres, sits about 40km away. Catania is Italy's fifth-busiest airport, serving about 12 million passengers yearly.
