Government to remove Houkura voting rights on Auckland committees

Local Government Minister Simon Watts announced Houkura, Auckland Council's Independent Māori Statutory Board, will lose voting rights on council committees under changes to the Local Government (System Improvements) Amendment Bill. He said legal advice found the board in scope. Members would still attend, speak and advise, but not vote as elected members do.
