Tropical Mosquito That Can Carry Dengue and Zika Found Breeding in East London for First Time

UKHSA confirmed Aedes aegypti — a mosquito that can transmit dengue, Zika, and chikungunya — was found breeding at residential properties in east London, the species' first recorded breeding in the UK. Larvae were destroyed and the area is under enhanced surveillance. UKHSA assessed public risk as low, with no human infections. It warned that warming climates will bring further invasive mosquito incursions.
