Over 80 Feared Dead After Migrant Boat Drifts 27 Days in Atlantic

A boat that departed The Gambia in early August with 127 people was found adrift 65 nautical miles southwest of Gran Canaria after 27 days. Spanish Maritime Rescue recovered 44 survivors and five bodies; activist Helena Maleno Garzón said 83 people died. Three survivors were hospitalised in critical condition. The Atlantic route to the Canary Islands remains one of the world's deadliest migration crossings.
