1.2 Million Rohingya Refugees Mark Ninth Anniversary of Genocide, Demand Right to Return

On August 24, 2026, hundreds of Rohingya refugees protested at Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, demanding justice and repatriation on the ninth anniversary of Myanmar's 2017 genocide. Close to 1.2 million remain stranded in camps. Myanmar's civil war blocks return; an ICJ genocide case filed by The Gambia in 2019 remains unresolved. UN officials and the US have designated the crisis a genocide.
