GSK's Bepirovirsen Doubles Hepatitis B Functional Cure Rate in Pivotal Trial
GSK's bepirovirsen achieved sustained loss of detectable hepatitis B surface antigen and HBV DNA in roughly 20% of chronic HBV patients in the B-clear trial, compared to approximately 10% with interferon-alpha therapy. The antisense oligonucleotide drug targets HBV RNA across multiple transcripts, suppressing viral protein production where nucleos(t)ide analogues alone cannot. The result positions bepirovirsen for Phase 3 advancement and reframes HBV treatment prospects for the 300 million people globally living with chronic infection.
