Amazon-Backed Texas Gas Plant Would Be Largest Single-Point CO2 Emitter in the U.S.

Amazon is co-funding a 35-turbine natural gas plant in Pecos County, Texas, permitted to emit 33 million tons of CO2 yearly — exceeding any U.S. power plant, including peak coal. The facility would generate up to 7.65 GW for a planned data center. Amazon's emissions rose 16% last year despite a 2040 net-zero pledge.
