Amazon-Backed Texas Gas Plant Would Be Largest Single-Point CO2 Emitter in the U.S.

Amazon is investing in an on-site natural gas plant in Pecos County, Texas, permitted to release 33 million tons of CO2 annually — more than any U.S. power plant, surpassing peak coal output. The 35-turbine facility would generate up to 7.65 GW for a planned data center. Amazon's emissions rose 16% last year despite a 2040 net-zero pledge.
