DOC proposes $20–$40 visitor levy at four iconic sites

DOC papers show international visitors could pay $20–$40 at Milford Sound, Aoraki Mount Cook, Mautohe Cathedral Cove and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, raising over $60 million yearly. Final amounts will be set by regulation. The earliest start is summer 2027–28, pending the Conservation Amendment Bill, which has passed its first reading in Parliament.
