Tourists may soon pay to visit Milford Sound and other famous NZ spots

The Department of Conservation is considering charging overseas visitors $20–$40 to visit Milford Sound, Aoraki Mount Cook, Cathedral Cove and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. That could raise over $60 million a year. Nothing is final yet — Parliament still needs to pass a law. The earliest it could start is summer 2027–28.
