Spain Smashes Dual-Purpose Mediterranean Smuggling Ring

Spanish police, aided by Europol (the EU's law-enforcement agency), arrested 78 people in a ring that shipped drugs and firearms to Algeria, then ferried migrants back to Spain — over 50 per boat, charged up to €12,000 each. Migrant smuggling profits alone topped €24 million. Spain called it one of the Mediterranean's largest such networks.
