Home Office reports record 17,000-plus arrests for illegal working

The Home Office said over 17,000 migrants were arrested for working illegally since July 2024 — a 122% rise on the previous two years. Raids reached 7,270 in early 2026. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood called enforcement "the highest level in British history." Employers face £74m in penalties this year.
