Proposed Hormuz Deal Would Hand Iran Control of Inbound Shipping

Iran and Oman said on 7 August 2026 that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow passage carrying roughly a fifth of global oil — is nearly finalised. Reuters reported the agreement would give Iran control over inbound commercial traffic, not restore full freedom of navigation. Trump has not formally signed off.
