Deal to Reopen Key Oil Route May Give Iran Power Over Ship Traffic

Iran and Oman said on 7 August 2026 that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow waterway that much of the world's oil passes through — is nearly done. The deal would let Iran control ships entering the strait rather than letting all vessels pass freely. Trump has not formally agreed.
