FCC Repeals National TV Station Ownership Cap

The FCC voted 2-1 on August 6, 2026, to repeal the national broadcast ownership cap, which barred any single broadcaster from holding stations reaching more than 39 percent of US TV households. Chair Brendan Carr and Commissioner Olivia Trusty approved; Commissioner Anna Gomez dissented, arguing only Congress can lift the cap. The FCC replaces it with case-by-case public interest review.
