FCC Removes Limit on How Many TV Stations One Company Can Own

The FCC voted 2-1 on August 6, 2026, to repeal a rule that stopped any one broadcaster from owning TV stations reaching more than 39 percent of US TV households. Chair Brendan Carr and Commissioner Olivia Trusty approved; Commissioner Anna Gomez dissented, saying only Congress can lift the cap. The FCC replaces it with case-by-case public interest review.
