Africa CDC and WHO Probe Possible Ebola Mutation as DRC Outbreak Tops 4,000 Cases

DRC's Ebola outbreak has exceeded 4,000 cases and 1,800 deaths — the second-largest on record. Africa CDC's Jean Kaseya and WHO's Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus now plan studies to determine whether the virus is mutating. The Bundibugyo strain involved historically kills fewer people than the Zaire strain responsible for the 2014–18 epidemic that claimed over 11,000 lives.
