
Luxon's MMP referendum pledge catches his own side off guard
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon told Newstalk ZB on 6 August he wanted an MMP referendum next term if re-elected. No coalition partners or caucus colleagues were briefed beforehand. Campaign chair Simeon Brown called it "a view given on radio," not policy. Justice minister Paul Goldsmith, who'd draft any referendum legislation, wouldn't confirm he knew.
