Luxon pledges MMP referendum in 2027 if re-elected

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has promised a referendum on the MMP voting system in 2027, if his government is returned at the 7 November election. He made the pledge on Newstalk ZB. Voters last decided the question in 2011, when 58 percent backed keeping MMP. Labour leader Chris Hipkins called the referendum unnecessary, citing that result.
