Labour Members Want More Defence Spending — Funded by Taxes, Not Welfare Cuts

A ThinkLabour survey of 788 Labour members found 68% back higher defence spending. But 61% of those supporters prefer tax rises over diverting welfare funds to pay for it — a direct challenge to PM Andy Burnham's plan to redirect welfare toward defence. ThinkLabour, closely tied to Burnham's premiership, ran the survey in June–July 2026.
