Labour Members Support More Defence Spending — But Want Taxes, Not Benefit Cuts, to Pay for It

A survey of 788 Labour Party members found 68% want more money spent on defence. But 61% of those supporters want taxes raised — not welfare benefits cut — to fund it. That challenges PM Andy Burnham's plan to shift welfare money into defence. The survey ran from June to July 2026.
