Second Detainee Death in Eight Months at New Jersey ICE Facility

Edwin Lopez-Cornejo, 41, died August 1, 2026, after a medical emergency at Delaney Hall, a GEO Group-run ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. His family says he was denied medication for diabetes and seizures; ICE says he received proper care. No cause of death has been determined. This is the second detainee fatality there in eight months, following Jean Wilson Brutus's death in December 2025.
